A: SoftShield® Secureview™ is high-end copy protection software that prevents end-users from copying your digital media content (text, images and audio visual) and enables you as the publisher to control the viewing rights of end-users on any PC anywhere, e.g. by user, expiry date or number of views.

Q: How does it work?

A: Package the media you wish to protect into a Microsoft® PowerPoint® (PPT) document. Our security engine converts this into a Securemedia™ format that looks and plays like a normal slide show, but content cannot be accesses, edited or copied.

Q: What protection options are available with OpenView?

A: One type of protection is primarily available:

(i) Copy Protection, i.e. no Printing, Print Screen, Edit functions or image or media capture using piracy software (ViewShare)

However:
(ii) If you wish to lock files within you company network this can be done easily using Securemedia OpenView.

Q: What is Secureview™ OpenView?

A: Secureview™ OpenView provides the lowest level of control to restrict sharing. Securemedia™ files in OpenView mode do NOT require a separate hardware key or software key to be present for the slide show to play.

Q: When to use Secureview™ OpenView?

A: You should use Secureview™ OpenView when you want Securemedia™ files to be shared freely around a community, e.g. as part of a promotion or viral marketing campaign, but want to retain full copy protection for the source content.

Q: When not to use Secureview™ OpenView?

A: You should not use Secureview™ OpenView if you want to switch off viewing rights at some point, e.g. by time or use limit. In this case you should use Secureview™ DirectView, especially if you want to require users to pay you a fee to continue viewing the Securemedia™ files.

Q: How can I distribute Securemedia™ files in OpenView mode?

A: You can easily distribute SoftShield® Securemedia™ to others via CD, email, ftp or web sharing tools, e.g. www.box.net, in the confidence that all forms of copying are disabled. We send a complete package to you in a ZIP file format with all enabling software and instructions needed to play the material.

Q: Can Secureview™ OpenView be locked to a PC or computer network?

A: If you wish to restrict file sharing on a PC or in a network environment (without the sophistication of hardware or software keys) it can be done as follows:

(i) Create a password protected folder on the user’s PC or network that will contain all ‘supporting files’ (Securemedia™ files and enabling files). Password protection will prevent unauthorized users from having access to share the enabling files needed for the Securemedia™ files to open.

(ii) Create a shortcut, e.g. on the users desktop linked to the password protected folder in Step (i). This will allow the end-user to trigger the launch of the Securemedia™ files without having access to the files needed to make it play.
